Makabayong na Wayong

Makabayong an Wayong

Makabayong an wayong
Nan Surigaonon na babaje
Makayujag an kataghom
Nan mga bawog na pilok
Sa mga mata na mapahiyumon

Kay bunga man ini
Nan mga magana na talan-awon
Sa baybay sa Mabua, sa isla nan Sagisi,
O kabilin sa kabuotan nan mga katiguyangan
Isa si Tiya Asay na jaganan nan mga magpatabang

Makabayong an wayong
Nan Surigaonon na kilong
Makahadlok an nagsiga
Na mga mata
Mahait pa sa sundang kun may hikot

Kay nagjagan sa ugat
An mga maisog na dugo
Ni Siagu, Simon,
Wenceslao, Adriano,
Ni Tahid ngadto kan Penduko

Pero an katam-is ni Babaje
Makahilis sa maisog na Layaki
Amo ran nan paghayok nan Danaw sanan Dagat
Na pag makita-an sa Tamulayag
Makabayong sa kalipay
Kay an karajaw kun tan-awon.

SURIGAONON FIRST!

Quote from: viper_viola on October 30, 2008, 05:28:47 pm, surigaocityforum:
"BUTUAN--Four barges, each carrying 1,000 tons of nickel-rich soil, leave Agusan del Norte frequently to transport raw quarried land to mainland China. Locals would joke that in a few years, there will be another Tubay in China.

Tubay is a municipality in Agusan del Norte where the San Roque Metals Inc (SRMI) is currently conducting mining operations for low-grade nickel and iron. Instead of shipping these ores, tons of quarried land from the nearby mountain is sold to other Asian countries like China and Korea.

The literal shipping of Philippine soil has been in practice not just in Tubay but in other mining sites in Caraga since the mining boom in 2006. Caraga, otherwise known as Region 13, is composed of five provinces: Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

Constructing processing plants could permanently remove Caraga in the list. Surigao City, considered the most developed city in region 13, is already negotiating with the Philippine Nickel Corporation (PHILNICO) for the construction of a processing plant in Nonoc Island, a former mining site.

SRMI, a Filipino-owned company, also plans to put up a processing plant in Tubay to upgrade the value of the ores mined in their area. As of the moment, they can only sell to China and sometimes, Korea.

Nickel is used to make computers, laptops, cell phones, utensils, and cars."

If we really want to fully realized the advantages of mining, let's not be contented with the mere extraction and exportation of the ores abroad.

The observation in the quoted news confirms that more employment will be created if processing plants are also set up here.

More jobs will be created if refinery and end-product production plants for computers, laptops, cellphones, utensils and cars are also established.
I may sound idealistic, but I am hopeful that someday Pinoys and Surigaonon would reclaim what they deserve.
